Inauguration of Axel's house and business

Two weeks ago we went back to the north of Germany.

We were invitated from Axel (Christine's brother) for the inauguration of his house and new business (architecture).

We spend a great time helping him with all the drinks and food . It was fun! They were a lot of friends from him and Kim (his girlfriend).
Christine did a great job helping the guests and Henri helped her.

I had the responsablity to take care of the bbq pigs (see picture)

Christine, aidee d'Henri, s'est merveilleusement occupe de l'intendance.

J'avais la responsabilite des cochons (voir les photos).

Wir waren mal wieder im Norden. Diesmal war Axels Einweihungsparty von Haus und Studio der Grund. Wir hatten viel Spass beim Versorgen der Gaeste mit Bier und Spanferkel. Herve war der Grillmeister vom Dienst.

We are back ...... finaly!!!!!

After a long time I find the way to come back to give some news through our blog.



Almost 5 months now that we left California.

Little by little we are feeling better in our new world.

Henri and Julie are feeling pretty good in the school and even have success in the test they write
Christine get very, more and more busy with her job. :-(

The very good point is that we were able to visit our families and friends many time

Enfin nous sommes instales et je retrouve le chemin du blog pour donner quelques nouvelles.
Les enfants se sentent plutot bien a l'ecole et ont meme quelques succes...
Christine est de plus en plus prise par son travail.

Le vrai bon point, c'est que nous avons pu rendre sisite a nos familles et amis.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Last weekend was Carnaval here so we use the opportunity to hit the road toward France. Christine had to stay in Germany because she had to work on Friday and ... we only had 3 places in the small truck we rented. We needed to pick up the stuff we stored in France before we left for the US.
We spend 3 great days visiting our family, having great time with my mother and brothers.
Henri and Julie spend most of the time outside playing in the snow with cousins and cousines. The weather was just perfect: snow, sun and a great nature.

Am letzten Wochenende war hier Karneval. Das Rheinland im Ausnahmezustand. Da dies nun eindeutig zu viel "Kultur" fuer uns war, sind wir nach Frankreich gefahren. D.h. Herve und die Kinder sind mit einem kleinen Transporter nach Frasne in den Schnee gefahren. Sie haben unsere Sachen abgeholt, die wir dort gelagert haben, da wir sie damals nicht mit nach Amerika genommen haben. Christine musste am Freitag arbeiten und ist somit zu Hause geblieben. Henri und Julie hatten einen riesigen Spass mit cousins und Cousinen im Schnee zu spielen und Herve hat es genossen seine Mutter und Brueder zu sehen. Waehrend die drei den Kurzschneeurlaub genossen haben, hat Christine einen Ausflug nach Holland gemacht. Brigitta hatte Geburtstag und somit einen Ueberraschungsbesuch bekommen. Das war klasse.

Ce week end passe, c'etait carnaval ici alors nous avons pris la fuite vers la France. Christine devait reste ici: travail le vendredi et pas de place dans la camionnette. Trois super jours dans la famille avec maman et mes freres. Les enfants ont passe le maximun de leur temps a jouer dehors dans la neige avec leurs cousins et cousines. Le temps etait parfait, neige et soleil.

WE GOT IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally after one more week waiting because of some custom troubles we got it, we received the container with all our stuff. It was not without challenges...The truck driver stayed with his truck on the road because the turn into the property was too narrow. This was about 300 feet from our house.We had to convince him that he could do it with our help. So he did it, he hit the fence twice but he did it.
We were nervous to see if everything was at the same place as it was when we closed the container in Mountain View. And we can tell you guys, you did a great job. Everything was fine. Thanks again ! If anybody wants a recommandation on Linkedin.... let us know.
After this we successfully achived Christine and me had to unload all the boxes (110) and our furniture out of the truck...Fortunetly, we got the help from our landlord and his family. And guess what, we uncharged the container in an hour ;-). The diver was happy to leave early but he had once again to pass the narrow drive way. This time he did it without hitting the fence.
After two days unpacking and assembling furniture we found only one broken piece. Even the hugh mirrow, with fell down next to the truck in Mountain View was ok.

ENDLICH!!!

Wir haben am Freitag unseren Container in Empfang nehmen duerfen. Dies was allerdings nicht ganz ohne Herrausforderungen.

Der Fahrer war puektlich (!!), aber wollte nicht auf den Hof fahren, da ihn die Einfahrt zu eng erschien. Dies hiess, dass wir die Moebel und Kartons ca. 100m bis ins Haus tragen muessten. Graus. Mit Hilfe unseres Vermieters haben wir dann den Fahrer ueberzeugen koennen, dass er auf den Hof fahren kann. Er hat es auch gemacht, allerdings Zaun und Gartentor mitgenommen....

Wir waren dann sehr gespannt, wie wir die Sachen im Container vorfinden werden. Ueberrachung... alles war noch genau am selben Platz wie wir es in Mountain View hineingeladen haben. Kompliment an all unsere Freunde. Vielen Dank Fred und die anderen. Falls Ihr eine Empfehlung auf Linkedin benoetigt, sagt Bescheid.

Nach nun zwei Tagen Auspacken und Moebel zusammenbauen, koennen wir eine positive Bilanz ziehen. Bisher haben wir nur ein Regal, welches etwas gelitten hat. Sogar der grosse Spiegel, der in Mountain View einmal gegen den LKW gefallen ist, ist noch heil. Mal sehen, was wir in den Geschirrkartons finden, wenn wir sie auspacken.

Enfin, nous avons recu notre container et toutes nos affaires.

Ce ne fut pas sans souci... Le chauffeur du camion ne voulait pas entrer dans la propriete disant que le chemin etait trop etroit. Nous avons reussi a le convaincre que ca passerait et ca a marche meme s'il a heurter par deux fois une barriere. Nous n'avions pas envie de porter tout (110 cartons plus les meubles) sur 100 metres.

Nous n'etions que Christine et moi (et un peu aussi Henri et Julie) pour vider le container. Heureusement, nous avons recu l'aide genereuse et spontanee de nos proprietaires. C'etait genial! En une heure, tout etait dehors et dans la maison.

Tout etait en parfait etat. Merci encore a tous ceux et celles qui nous ont aide au depart.

Maintenant, apres deux jours a defaire les cartons et monter certains meubles, nous y voyons un peu plus claire.

Il reste encore de quoi m'occuper dans les prochains jours

The container is coming today :-)))

Today is the day we will finally arrive in Germany and be completed. Camping will be over. Stay tuned ... pictures and report of the reception will come.

Heute ist der Tag an dem wir endlich richtig in Deutschland ankommen und dann wieder vollständig sein. Vorbei mit Camping. Bleibt dran.... Fotos werden kommen und ein Bericht über die Empfangnahme.

Aujourd'hui est le jour nous arrivons finalement en Allemagne et serons complet. Fini avec le camping. Revenez.....photos vont etre afficher.

First day at work and no container

We are preparing the house to move in. All the bed rooms are painted and the kitchen is in work. Bad news regarding the container. It is in Germany but the customs don't want to let it go. Hopefully tomorrow. Unfortunaty, we have to leave the vacation appartment today and as the container is not deliveredwe have to move to another vacation appartment.... ....think positiv.Christine had her first day at the new job. New boss is great and the team is very young and motivated. There is a lot of work.

Wir sind dabei das neue Haus fuer den Einzug vorzubereiten. Die Schlafzimmer sind gestrichen und die Kueche ist in Arbeit. Leider haben wir schlechte Nachrichten seitens des Kontainers bekommen. Der Zoll wollte ihn nicht freigeben. Es fehlte noch eine Bescheinigung von Logitech. Hoffentlich wird es morgen etwas. Hinzukommt noch, dass wir morgen unsere Ferienwohnung verlassen muessen. Wir haben somit eine neue Wohnung gemietet fuer hoffentlich nur max. 3 Naechte.... immer schoen positiv bleiben.Christine hatte heute Ihren ersten Arbeitstag im neuen Job. Chef ist sehr nett und das Team sehr jung und motiviert.Es gibt sehr viel zu tun.

Nous travaillons toujours a la maison que nous louons.Les chambres a coucher sont finies et la cuisine en travaux.Seulement nous attendons toujours nos affaires qui sont pour l'instant bloquees par les douanes a Bremerhaven.Le probleme est que nous devons quitter le logement ou nous sommes et en trouver un autre pour deux ou trois nuits(en esperant que ce ne soit pas plus).Nous sommes impatients de rentres dans nos meubles.Christine a eu sont premier jour de travail dans sa nouvelle entreprise. Ca se presente plutot bien... a suivre.

Birthday party at Starbucks with Currywurst

After a week without any news we are back. The last week was very busy. We have sign the rental for the house, ordered the new kitchen and we got a new car (oh man a BMW again.... could't resist) and now are waiting for the Container. We got the confirmation yesterday that it arrived in Bremerhaven. Good sign.
Yesterday was a special day. Herve's 44 years..... He spend most of the time in the house painting the walls. In the afternoon, we picked him up and drove to Bonn. With his eyes closed we directed him to this favorite place. "Starbucks". It felt like in the US. He got his beloved VanillaLatte and a little birthday cake with Candles. After with we all got a "Currywurst" on the street. Hmm Lecker....

Nach einer Woche sind wir wieder da. Es war eine sehr beschaeftigete Woche. Wir haben den Mietvertrag unterschrieben, eine neue Kueche gekauft und ein neues Auto gefunden. ( ja es ist wieder ein BMW, wir konnten nicht widerstehen). Jetzt warten wir noch auf den Container. Wir haben gestern die Mitteilung bekommen, dass er in Bremerhaven gelandet ist. Das ist schon mal sehr gut.
Gestern war ein besonderer Tag. Herve wurde 44. Er hat die meister Zeit mit Malen verbracht aber am Nachmittag haben wir ihn abgeholt und ihn zu seinem Lieblingscafe gefuert. Bei Starbucks gab es Vanilla Latte mit Geburtstagstorte und Kerzen. Danach noch eine Currywurst an der Bude.

Toujours pas de lien internet et nous devons aller au Mac Do pour avoir une heure acces au hot spot...
Nous avons maintenant signer le contrat pour louer une maison, acheter une voiture (BMW 320 Touring) et une cuisine. Sans oublier une machine a laver et un seche linge...
Je passe mes journees a repeindre les chambre de la maison.
Mercredi etait mon anniversaire. NOus sommes alles en famille Au centre de Bonn pour prendre un cafe a Starbucks. Genial, je me suis regale.
Le container est arrive au port mais les douanes font quelques difficultes. Nous ne pouvons plus attendre de rentrer dans nos meubles...
